St. Louis, Missouri (April 2014) – Enhanced Medical Services, a St. Louis-based provider of ophthalmology equipment announces the acquisition of Houston-based Universal Ophthalmic Instruments, Inc. Terms of the sales are not disclosed.

“Enhanced Medical Services is excited for the opportunity to expand into the southwest via Universal Ophthalmic Instruments,” said Tony Genovese, President and CEO of Enhanced Medical Services. “With this acquisition, our company is poised to double in employees and revenue in 2014 and we are fortunate to have the Universal team with us to help us grow in the coming year.”

By acquiring the Universal brand, Enhanced Medical Services will not only expand its presence, but also will be able to offer an unprecedented array of products and service in the new and pre-owned ophthalmic and optometric equipment area with partners like Topcon Medical, Haag-Streit Reliance, Canon, Marco, Reichert and more.

“Selling our stake in the company is not something we took lightly, but at this time in our careers, Terry Ulrich and I wanted to ensure that our customers would receive the same level of service after we retire,” said Jim Miller, co-owner of Universal Ophthalmic Instruments. “We are confident that the team at Enhanced Medical Services will deliver excellent service and will offer our clients a robust product offering. Our current employees and our current customers will thrive with their new EMS partnerships.”
