About Edgers

For nearly a century, optical lenses have been cut into eyeglass frames using automatic lens edgers. In the last few decades patterns, or templates, that were used to match frame shapes have been replaced with state-of-the-art mapping units called tracers. The combination of a tracer, lens blocker, and an edger is known as a comprehensive patternless edging system. The user simply traces the patient’s selected frame, puts a block on their prescribed lens for machining, puts it in the edger with selected material and edge finishing preferences, and cuts to fit.  All of this plus any ancillary equipment can now fit in a small lab area allowing practices to create precise and fashionable eyewear in-house.
